Kidding aside I think Marrow wanted to prove his worth as a wizard to his father (the story seems to point to him being Gaius O’Shannessy) so he stole some reasearch to do just that, but something went wrong, this being possibly related to that betrayal he talked about, and he got that scar on his face.
I think Marrow was in an arranged marriage and Cole comes from it; maybe the birth of his son pushed him to want to prove himself quicker, or his father was the one to push him; when shit went down he fled with his lover (Hamish) and his newly born son. Cole’s mother could have died in that incident, or the events that followed; it would make it so Marrow didn’t just take Cole away from her.

Maeve really seems like the cloacked mage. Works alone, smaller build, powerful druid, is noble but seems to have some pretty ambitious and nefarious plans…
I feel like if she was a red herring she’d have probably been introduced after the culprit, but the only even slightly plausible guys introduced are the prince and Calder, of which neither can really be the culprit, so I’m placing my bet on her.
(I was rereading the Cole-Hamish moments and came across the debriefing scene again; when Cole said “They’re probably versed in the Wizardry class of magic…. Or maybe Druidcraft? No, Wizardry is more likely.” I was super sold on Maeve; the whole scene after reading her introduction feels like it doesn’t want to point at her too hard on a first read but also seem like small hints in hindsight upon a second read after you know it’s her)
Btw if it’s true and I actually got it the update she’s introduced I’m gonna give myself a tiny pat on the back :p

Like, with all the talk of him maybe being a noble and him having another class he doesn’t talk about, his spite towards his father and wizards in particular, if you introduce another hyena with his same fur colors, that comes from a wizard noble family of assholes that Amish used to work for, that wants to face him for being “traitorous” and “ungrateful”… Without talking of the whole thing with Marrow and Agatha and him having a magic caused scar from a betrayal. They all kinda point at the same conclusion.
Also since Marrow is likely the son of Gaius, Cole and Calder are probably cousins. First degree cousins.

All three are the main character. and you do not choose but just see there story. occasionally the story will jump from one character to another if they are not together. Though if i would have to pick. i would say the game favors Cole the bard as we see most of the story from his point. but its not by much mind you.
I love how Shirokoi swapped the typical sexy woman in revealing clothes for a man instead. I'm tired of seeing that I mean seriously, Sidd is a keeper. 😉😉

Clearly those toxic nobles and their ways are to blame for his behavior and I have suspicion that Maeve might something in stored for them clearly not good. I like her but for some reason I getting a dark vibe about her, and Agatha too I also wonder just who's friend and who's foe.

Blaming sourrounding is always easy to absolve a person from there faults but we have seen time and time again that people can be different from there surrounding. wether there try to be different or there just give in is there decision. Not saying Caulder cant be redeemed but he has first to admit that he himself is at fault.
Also i wouldn immediatly call all nobles toxic for the way some of them act and in Maeves case i get more the feeling that she is just someone who does what she has to do in order for her house to hold its own. she is just playing the game well, to the dismay of the other noble houses.
Thought that just my theories and humble opinions.
I love Cole and Artemi even more now. The art for the duels was great and the outcome was hilarious and very satisfying. I don't dislike Agatha all that much anymore, but I'm wondering what's gonna happen with Calder cuz he sure doesn't seem very redeemable atm. Can't wait to see how the brawling tournament goes, it'll be nice to see Sidd getting his chance to shine, and more of Reinier as well cuz he seems pretty cool (and pirates are hot). I also didn't know I needed it but now I wanna see more of Sidd treating Malus like the cute pet he was meant to be.

I've been voraciously playing through this since I downloaded it last night. It ended unexpectedly just a half hour into my shift at work. 😂 I'm so in love with this VN and the characters, particularly the Bone breakers! I eagerly await the next update!!
i mean it shows pretty early that Cole does care for Sidd's feelings and prefers that they dont become a thing because hes not great at the "feelings department"

Oh, Marrow's a berserker barbarian? My condolences for his, to put it lightly, less that stellar 3rd level feature.
